Improve your Photography Skills

This tour will teach you lessons in exceptional travel photography. You will learn to set up and use your camera to not only capture these stunning moments, but to reflect their beauty through techniques personalised to the demands of any given situation.

Whatever your skill with your camera – whether you’re a novice or experienced, whether you’re using a semi or professional DSLR – you will grow as a photographer, expand your arsenal of skills and techniques, and come away with a complete understanding of your camera.

WHY IS THIS TOUR DIFFERENT TO ALL THE OTHERS?

It’s because Kev will give evening lessons and set technical photography challenges daily to test what you have learnt. Read below for more detail.

Personalised Photography
Lessons on Tour

Daily Photography
Lessons

Each day of the tour Kev will give a Camera/photographic lesson after dinner at each accomodation.

In this lesson he will teach a new photographic technique demonstrating it to the group and show how to set you cameras up for to achieve this technique.

He will also set a theme for the next day’s photos, e.g. architecture, people, depth of field or movement.

During the next day’s excursions each member must practice the newly learnt technique as much as possible.

Don’t stress, you are also allowed to shoot in any style you wish too.

Nightly Photo
Viewings

Before each nightly photography/camera lesson all tour participants will supply Kev with five of their best images demonstrating the day’s theme/technique and five of their best general photos from the day.

Being projected onto a screen each image will be viewed and discussed as a group, providing the photographer valuable insight on how the group feel the photo could be improved, tweaked, or left perfect as is.

This might be scary for some to show their photos to the group but it is an amazingly valuable way to gain insights, grow confidence to improve in some areas of photography where others are better experienced.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Delhi

Welcome to Delhi, a fabulously chaotic capital city that will warm your heart and overwhelm your senses. The air is thick with the smell of spices and the sound of mayhem as vendors whip up masala chai on the side-streets, locals barter at bazaars for the best bargain, and the honking horns of cycle-rickshaws resonate through vast crowds of colorful sari-clad women. With no activities planned until your welcome meeting with the Tour Leader in the evening.

Day 2: Delhi Sightseeing

Get a taste of the colorful, hectic city life with a morning spent exploring India’s buzzing capital. Visit Delhi’s most iconic sights, discover the history, culture, and people that constitute this fascinating metropolis. This morning, check out the sights and sounds of Old Delhi on a leader-led tour of this enchanting quarter of the capital. Take a ride on the city’s modern metro system, get a taste of India’s famed public transport with an optional cycle rickshaw ride through chaotic streets (such as the famous Chandni Chowk), perhaps make a visit to the JamaMasjid – Delhi’s oldest mosque and one of its most impressive buildings – then stop by the Sheeshganj Gurudwara (Sikh Temple) to learn about the Sikh religion, a cup of chai, just like the locals, stop and sample a samosa from a street stall, wander through narrow alleyways, and see the sights, smells, and people of Delhi front and centre. Explore a local market where goods on offer range from wedding paraphernalia to cow dung on a string (seriously).

Day 3: Train to Agra

Today we take one of India’s express air-conditioned trains to Agra. It doesn’t matter who you are, the Taj Mahal will exceed all your expectations with the morning light shimmering off its white marble surface. Best known as a monument to love and loss, the 17th century Taj is a beautiful example of Mughal architecture, surrounded by trimmed English gardens. Afterward, enjoy a free day to explore Agra’s alternative highlights. If you’ve got the energy, as an optional trip head out to Agra Fort and stroll the palatial gardens of this red sandstone stronghold or check out Akbar’s Mausoleum, a beautiful sandstone and marble tomb built for the greatest of the Mughal emperors.

Day 4: Drive to Jaipur

Journey to Jaipur by private vehicle (about 6-8 hours), 40km from Agra, we stop to explore the fortified city of Fatehpur Sikri. Built during the second half of the 16th Century by Emperor Akbar, this so-called City of Victory was only the capital of the Mughal Empire for ten years, but it bears exceptional testimony to the great vision of Akbar, and the architects of his day. From Fatehpur Sikri, we continue on to Jaipur – the colorful, chaotic capital of Rajasthan. On the waywe stop at Abhaneri – a rural town provides a lovely detour from the bigger cities. Visit the Chand Baori, a 20-metre-deep stepwell where water was collected an locals used to gather to escape the heat. Built-in the late ninth century, the baori is a mind-bending feat of construction. Next visit another jewel of Abhaneri, the Harshat Mata Temple. These ruins of the temple were first constructed between the seventh and eighth centuries and dedicated to the goddess of happiness and joy. Upon reaching Jaipur we have time here to explore several of the city’s medieval palaces and monumental forts. But be warned – traveling between each iconic building can be an adventure in itself. Expect to see camel carts and elephants, scooters, trucks, and bikes all jostling for space on the roads or you can go for an optional Bollywood movie to indulge in the culture.

Day 5: Jaipur Sightseeing

If you’re keen for a different view of the Pink City, an optional early morning hot air balloon ride is a trip highlight for many visitors. After breakfast, we head out for a day of sightseeing in Jaipur. We begin at the Amber Fort, the honey-colored fortress-palace in the Aravalli Hills just north of the town center. The sombre exterior belies the richness of the royal apartments, which open to striking views of the gorge. The Hall of Victory presents a galaxy of decorative art – panels of alabaster with fine inlay work of the tenderness hues and the intriguing Chamber of Mirrors. We return to town to view Jai Singh’s Observatory built in the 17th century by the founder of Jaipur who, besides being a prince was also a soldier, astronomer, and builder. We conclude at the City Palace, now a museum that contains fine Rajput and Moghul paintings, rare manuscripts and an armoury, old carpets, and even amazingly embroidered clothes of the Maharajas and the Maharanis.

Day 6: Flight to Varanasi

Take a flight to Varanasi, on arrival into Varanasi, check in to your hotel and freshen up before heading out on a guided walking tour of the Old City. Set along the banks of the holy Ganges River, Varanasi is the ultimate destination for Hindu pilgrims who travel from far and wide to experience this spiritual city. Overflowing with temples, shrines, and devotees, it might not be one of the world’s cleanest cities but there’s no doubt it’s one of the most amazing. It’s a unique experience to navigate through Varanasi’s maze of narrow alleyways packed full of small shops, stalls and lumbering cows. See pilgrims performing rituals unchanged for hundreds of years and pass chiming temples as wafts of incense fills the air.

Day 7: In Varanasi

Today’s an early start, but it’s completely worth it as you take a boat ride down the Ganges to watch the sunrise. Even if you’re not the spiritual sort, you can’t help but get goosebumps. Pass the many ghats (stairs leading to the water) and temples along the river, and watch thousands of Hindu pilgrims cleanse their sins in the holy water as the sun bathes the surrounds in glorious shades of amber and orange. Witness the rituals of life and death taking place along the riverbank and be prepared for potentially confronting sights and smells, as this is also where families come to cremate deceased loved ones. The rest of the day is free to explore.

Day 8: Varanasi – Overnight train

Today there’s lots of free time to explore more of Varanasi before you get a unique slice of Indian life on board an overnight sleeper train bound for Delhi. You could take a trip to nearby Sarnath, one of the four main Buddhist pilgrimage destinations and the site is where Buddha preached his message of the path to enlightenment. There’s also the crumbling 17th-century fort and palace on the eastern bank of the Ganges, Ram Nagar Fort. Varanasi is home to India’s silk-making industry, so maybe investigate the many silk markets dotted around the city, otherwise, take the chance to perfect your yoga in the ultimate chakra-balancing place.

Day 9: Arrive Delhi

This morning we arrive at India’s capital. This exciting city is overflowing with incredible historic sites, museums and galleries, shops and endless bazaars. Watch one of the world’s greatest shows unfold as people, cars, rickshaws, and cows all work together in a kind of organized chaos. Perhaps sit back with a chai and let it soak in as you enjoy a free day to explore. Ask your expert leader for their top recommendations on how to make the most of your time here. This evening, enjoy an optional dinner with your group to say goodbye to this incredible country and toast to your adventures.
