Most books are assessed on cultural significance, originality, literature merit and publication possibility. Writing a novel is indeed hard work. The story must be convincing, powerful and introduce intrigue. Creating suspense must be a gradual process to keep the reader interested. It must be stretched out gradually like an elastic band and then finally go off with a bang. I agree that writers spend hours in a room, most of the time alone, thus there is much time for doubt to set in. Good luck with your writing.
